Another First
One of the best things about having kids is getting to participate in all of those important firsts. The first steps, the first words, etc. Well, Thing 2 reached one of his important firsts today with the help of Thing1. He got his first head injury. (Pics are available)
We are, naturally, very proud. I mean, he isn’t even two yet.
So the story is that the Things were fighting over a sippy cup. Thing 1, being larger and stronger, got it from Thing 2 and?here is where I start guessing at the details?when Thing 2 wouldn’t stop pestering him about it he threw it at him. It hit Thing 2 right in the middle of his forehead, just inside the hairline.
Somehow that caused the skin to split open and we ended up at the doctor’s office. He is fine, and will heal quickly, it wasn’t very severe or anything. The doctor glued it shut and said it will be okay in about a week.
I am a little sad about the glue though. What happened to stitches? That’s what I want to know. Every kid (especially boys) needs to get some stitches. It’s a right of passage. Something to brag about to your buddies. Now they just glue it shut. Boring. Compare the following:
“I had to get 5 stitches in my head when my brother hit me with a cup.”
“I got a cut on my head glued shut when my brother hit me with a cup.”
The first one sounds manly and tough. The second…meh. The loss of stitches is kind of like the end of an era. Kids won’t have that topic as a source of bonding material anymore. Of course, The Wife is happy about the glue, but she’s a girl. Girl’s just don’t understand this stuff.
