New Year Reboot

So 2008 has come, and gone and 2009 is upon us. Time to talk about what I am hoping to get out of the New Year. For starters, I am actually going to write my resolutions down this year. Traditionally, I am not much of a goal setter. I tend to be a go-with-the-flow kind of guy, but I think that approach has not been very successful for me. So this year I am writing down my resolutions in the hopes that committing them to paper (or bits if you want to be pedantic) will help me work harder to make them a reality.

So without further ado, I present my New Year’s Resolution, 2009 Edition —

  • Lose that 20 extra pounds I’ve been carrying around (okay, I admit it, there are more than 20 pounds to lose, but let’s start there and worry about the rest later)
  • Redesign the site (I’ve got a refresh of the site in process and want to get it finished up this quarter)
  • Blog more frequently (at least once a week) and start talking more about web design
  • Get more freelancing gigs (I’ve got some possible projects lined up, but we’ll see how things go with those)
  • Pay off the car (if I can get a few freelance gigs and use the tax return it could actually happen)
  • Refinance the mortgage (the interest rates are looking great, but I need to get a few things lined up first — see above for an example)
  • Take the family to Disneyland
  • Learn JQuery (this is partly for the redesign and mostly because I think that this skill will make me more marketable)
  • Get some money into Savings (I have a 401k, but I need something a bit more liquid)

I think that will do for this year. There are a few other resolutions that I have but I don’t want to make those public. Hopefully, this year will be kind to me and my family (and to you and yours). This year seems full of potential and peril all at the same time. But what doesn’t kill us makes us stronger and I am looking forward to whatever comes my way this year.

I have always been very particular about organization. Writing things down really does help because you can constantly review your list-it’s a reminder that never goes away. I especially do this with my finances. Controlling my money is very important to me, so organization is key. Every year, just as you have done, I go through and create a list of things that I want to happen for the new year. Just remember, you have an entire year for this list, so be patient and disciplined.
