Trust Me on the Sunscreen
There was a “song” that came out a few years ago that I have been thinking about over the last couple of days. It was called Everybody’s Free - To Wear Sunscreen. I have been pondering its wisdom over the weekend due to the fact that I am suffering from the most painful sunburn I have ever had.
Over the weekend The Wife and I decided to take the Things to the pool in an effort to escape the heat of our oven home (which is another story altogether). As any good parent would, we lathered up the kids with sunscreen to protect their delicate little hides from the 109° temperature. Yeah, apparently it was like 109° that day according to one thermometer we saw on our way home. Which everyone knows is only about 15° below the temperature of Hell itself.
The kids were fine and had a great time at the pool. I, on the other hand, decided to forego the sunscreen in an effort to be less of a pasty white guy. And while I am no longer a pasty white guy I did not acheive that tan I was going for. I am now a rather lovely shade of pink. And oh does it hurt. I have had my share of sunburns before, but this one takes the cake. It hurts, and it hurts bad. It is more painful than any sunburn I can remember.
You know how usually, you get a sunburn and you hope that no one decides to give you a pat on the back because that really stings? This is more like I have to really bite my lip when getting dressed to keep from screaming. And if anyone gives me a pat on the back, I have to forcibly restrain myself from killing them. It hurts in a way that Aloe Vera is powerless to soothe (that hurts to apply as well).
So yeah, take it from me. Wear the sunscreen.
